Frequently Asked Questions
On the "Consumption specifications" in the brochure, why is the number of slides per bottle for "Full 12-slide carousel" higher than "Full-30 slide carousel"?
The 30 slide carousel uses more reagent in a single cycle than the 12 slide carousel does. This is to make sure that stain reaches every part of those 30 slides and the quality of each slide is the same as slides run in the 12 slide carousel. It is a very small difference but the volume of reagent per slide is slightly higher for the 30 slide carousel.
The 12 slide carousel is more efficient in stain usage, but your 30 slide carousel has a high throughput.
How potent is the smell of the Aerospray® Cytology Staining process?
Equal to or less potent than other staining methods.
Introduced in the Aerospray® Cytology Stainer is a staining process run in a closed system with no vented lid. This feature mitigates exposure to fumes during the staining cycle. The only exposure the user will have to the smell is when the lid is open after a staining cycle and a small residual amount from waste disposal. The Aerospray® Cytology Stainer greatly reduces the exposure to the fumes of the reagents when compared to traditional hand staining. In comparison to open system dip stainers the fumes are also less. Regardless, it is recommended that the stainer be used in a well-ventilated environment.
What is the purpose of the cycle timer?
Workflow efficiency.
This allows the end-user to note the time that it takes for each cycle and in turn plan accordingly. This is important because the slides need to be cover slipped while wet shortly after the end of the staining cycle. The timer also allows users and managers to plan workflow better in the laboratory.
Is there better quality of staining with the 12-slide carousel versus the 30-slide carousel?
There is no difference.
The quality of the staining is the same on both carousels. If the user notes a difference, please contact a support representative to ensure the machine is working properly.
Can the Aerospray® Cytology Stainer stain sperm?
Yes.
If there is sperm present in a urine sample, for example, it will take on a blue tone and have no nucleus.
Can the Cytology Stainer stain gynecological smears?
The Cytology stainer can be used for gynecological samples, however staining quality may vary. Liquid cytology samples are recommended.
What cell application and procurement fixation methods work with the Aerospray® Cytology Stainer?
All commonly used methods.
The Aerospray® Cytology Stainer is compatible with various different fixation methodologies. Utilizing the cytocentrifugation capabilities of the CytoPro rotor is recommended. Ethyl alcohol (95%) is the most commonly used fixative in cytology. Cytology samples are commonly prepared by direct smear, liquid-based preparations, and cytocentrifugation.
